Comparison of three Breeding Methods in Pepper

Abstract
This experiment was conducted to compare the F_6 lines derived from pedigree selection, single seed descent (SSD) and SSD combined with early generation pedigree selection for several main characters of pepper.
SSD produced significantly the best lines for days to first flowering, capsaicin content and fruits per plant, but it did the smallest fruit. SSD combined with pedigree selection produced the best Lines equal or superior to those of pedigree selection for most characters except for days to first flowering.
The all characters studied in the experiment being put into consideration, the selected best line by pedigree selection appeared to be slightly superior to those by the other breeding methods.
